The Wedding Registry

Learn more about the wedding registry and how it can help you in gift choosing.

The wedding registry of gift registry is a free service that is provided by most large department stores. You and your fiancé register at the specific store and make note of the specific gifts you want to receive. Then as family and friends go to these stores, they can locate your names and pull up the list of gifts you have noted.

Today, many registries are available online as part of that store's website and resource. This is a very handy feature because now you don't even have to make the trip to the major stores but can register online in the comfort of your home and anytime you want. It is best to register with at least one high-quality store that is sure to have everything you may need. Your registry will appear throughout all the store's locations which is quite handy for your out-of-town guests.

Before registering at a specific store, make sure you read the store's policy on exchanges and returns, in case you receive duplicate gifts or even ones that were inadvertedly damaged during shipment. Ask the store about how they might handle any mix-ups with other names that may be similar to yours on the registry. The should take responsiblity for any mix-up and credit you appropriately.

You will need to go to the store however if you are unsure about the sort of gifts you would like and to select your gifts. Browsing will help you with items such as a china pattern or dinnerware, silverware patterns, glasses, kitchen pots and pans, and other various household items. When you select an item, it is done with a laser gun which automatically adds the item to your registry.

You can also opt to do it the manual way and check boxes on a gift registry form. Don't be afraid to list large ticket items such as a TV or DVD player. The following are some items that may be included in the gift registry but of course, will depend on what you will need.

Tableware such as fine china, everyday dishes, glassware, and silverware. In the linen departments may include sheets or bedding, towels, tablecloths, and cloth napkins. Cookware will consists of bakeware, aluminum, glass, or microwaveable cookware. The important thing is to go with your fiancé, if possible. This way you both can decide on the patterns or colors. If he doesn't have an interest in doing so, browsing online may be another option.
